Wear a coast guard approved life jacket<\/strong> while boating.<\/p>\n Keep a fire extinguisher on board<\/strong> and check the expiration date before each boating season.<\/p>\n Don’t drink and boat.<\/strong> Alcohol use is the leading contributing factor in fatal boating\u00a0accidents.<\/p>\n Fuel your boat properly<\/strong> and always run the blower 5 minutes after fueling to eliminate gasoline vapors.<\/p>\n Check the weather.<\/strong> Weather can change rapidly on the water. Tune in to your local weather station, or visit the NOAA website for up to date weather information.<\/p>\n Participate in the Vessel Safety Check\u00a0 (VSC) Program<\/strong>, a free public service offered by U.S. Coast Guard Auxilliary and the U.S. Power Squadron volunteer organizations.
